Permanent Notarial Certidão: How to Check and Request It

The permanent notarial certidão gives electronic access to a deed, power of attorney, will, or other notarial act, through an access code valid for one year. It's managed by the Ordem dos Notários — a different platform from the IRN's permanent certidões.

Since June 1, 2022, notarial acts in Portugal have been archived electronically in a single database, run by the Ordem dos Notários. The certidão's access code means the original document doesn't need to be presented to any public or private entity during its validity period.

How to Check or Request It

Check with an access code

  1. Go to arquivo.notarios.pt
  2. Enter the access code you were given
  3. Check the notarial act online

Request a new certidão

  1. Contact the notary office where the act was drawn up
  2. Provide the book and pages where the document was recorded
  3. Receive the access code — valid for 1 year

Not the Same Platform as the IRN

This is a common mix-up: the permanent notarial certidão is managed by the Ordem dos Notários, through its Electronic Archive. The permanent commercial, property, and vehicle certidões are managed by the Institute of Registries and Notary (IRN), through the Conservatória Virtual. These are different systems, from different bodies.
