Voter Certidão: How to Request It

The voter certidão is requested at the Junta de Freguesia (parish council) for the area where you're registered to vote — it's free and usually issued on the spot or within three days.

This is the document that proves your registration on the electoral roll — requested for candidacies, some administrative processes, or to confirm where you're registered to vote.

How to Request It

At the Junta de Freguesia

  1. Go to the Junta de Freguesia for the area where you live (where you're registered to vote)
  2. Ask the electoral registration committee for the voter certidão, verbally or in writing
  3. Bring your Cartão de Cidadão
  4. It's free — you'll get it on the spot or within 3 days

Check your registration

  1. To confirm you're already registered (without requesting the certidão), check portaldoeleitor.pt
  2. If you're not registered yet, registration is voluntary and done at the Junta de Freguesia for your area of residence
  3. Bring an ID document and proof of address

Military ID / Military Status Declaration

A separate document, also related to civic duties: the cédula militar (military ID) is the official document proving a citizen's military status, and it replaces the old "declaração de situação militar" for legal purposes. Military registration has been automatic since 2009 — there's no need to enrol in person.

It's requested through the BUD portal (Balcão Único de Documentos), run by the Directorate-General for National Defence Resources (DGRDN):
